Early Life

Jolie, the daughter of actor John Voight, spent most of her childhood in New York, and at 11 she moved to Los Angeles. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years and then enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. She later studied drama at New York University. In addition to playing in theatrical productions, she also models and appears in music videos.

Directing

In 2011, Jolie made her debut as a director and screenwriter in the Bosnian-language In the Land of Blood and Honey, a bustling love story that arose during the 1990s conflict in Bosnia. She then helmed in the World War II drama Unbroken (2014).

The script of the film, based on the real story of an Olympic runner and a US Air Force officer who became a Japanese prisoner of war after a plane crash, was written by the Coen brothers.
