Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo formed in 1993 in Paris by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They gained popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; They also get success in the following years, combining house music elements with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. They are considered some of the most influential performers in the history of dance music. Daft Punk has worn adorned helmets and gloves to assume personalized robots in most public appearances since 1999 and rarely gave interviews or appeared on television. From 1996 to 2008, they were directed by Pedro Winter (also known as Busy P), head of Ed Banger Records.

After the disbanded of indie rock bands Bangalter and Homem-Christo, they began experimenting with drum machines and synthesizers. Their debut studio album, Homework, was released by Virgin Records in 1997 to positive reviews and received support from the singles “Around the World” and “Da Funk”. Their second album, Discovery, had further success with hits like “One More Time”, “Digital Love”, and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”. In March 2005, Daft Punk released their third album, Human, After All, to mixed reviews, although the singles “Robot Rock” and “Technologic” were successful in the UK. Daft Punk toured in 2006 and 2007 and released the live album Alive 2007, which won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. They wrote the score for the 2010 film Tron: The Legacy along with their soundtrack album.

In 2013, Daft Punk left Virgin for Columbia Records and released their fourth album, Random Access Memories, to confess; The lead single “Get Lucky” hit the top 10 charts in 32 countries. In 2014, The Random Memories won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for Good Luck. In 2016, Daft Punk gained at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song “Starboy”, co-produced with The Weeknd. Rolling Stone ranked them 12th on their list of the 20 Greatest Duos of All Time.

On February 22, 2021, they announced their split with an 8-minute video on their YouTube channel.
