Jelena Noura Hadid was born in Los Angeles and was born to real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and former model Yolanda Hadid (née Van den Herik). Her mother is Dutch, and her father is Palestinian. Through her father, she claims to be of descent from Daher al-Omer, Prince of Nazareth, and Sheik of Galilee. Hadid has two young brothers, sister Bella and brother Anwar. She has two older paternal half-sisters, Marielle and Alana. In 2013, Hadid graduated from Malibu High School where he competed in horse racing with the Varsity Volleyball Team captain.

After graduating from high school, she moved to New York City to focus on her research and modelling career. Hadid studied criminal psychology at New School in the fall of 2013 but suspended her research to focus on her modeling career.

Hadid’s modeling career began after discovering at the age of two by Paul Marciano wearing Guess’ clothes. She started modelling with baby guess before concentrating on school. Hadid finally returned to modelling in 2011.  She resumed her work with Marciano and was named the face of the Guess campaign in 2012. Hadid filmed three campaigns with Guess as an adult.

After moving to New York City in 2013 to sign the IMG model, Hadid made her New York Fashion Week debut in February 2014 and participated in the Desigual show. In the same month, she got a high fashion break on the cover of CR Fashion Book magazine. On July 15, 2014, she starred in the fashion designer Tom Ford’s eyewear fall/winter campaign with actor and model Patrick Schwarzenegger. She co-sponsored the Fashion Media Awards event for Daily Front Row on September 5, 2014, in New York. Hadid has also appeared in Tom Ford F/W 2014, Tom Ford Velvet Orchard Fragrance and Tom Ford Beauty 2014 campaigns.

Hadid appeared in the 2015 Pirelli calendar. In the same year, Hadid was also a brand ambassador for Australian fashion swimwear label Seafolly. In January 2015 she was named the Daily Front Row Best Model of the Year and Maybelline brand ambassador.
