Great Britain and France are the origins of Ice Hockey. The first evidence of ice hockey comes back after 500 years. Many people believe that the hockey players on the field made some changes to ice hockey so that they could play during the cold and ice winter months. The origin of the word hockey – this is perhaps the French word “hockey”, denoting “inclined wand”.
Ice hockey was first introduced to North America by British sailors who arrived in New Scotland. At the same time, students at McGill University in Montreal also began to play ice hockey. Over time, Ontario formed a small hockey club with four teams. Gradually began to grow, and in a short period of time clubs from different cities began to play against each other. Lord Stanley of Preston, the governor-general of England, recognizes the ability of these early players and teams to create a unique silver cup, awarding the best American hockey teams. This was the beginning of the Stanley Cup.
Previously, the ice hockey team had nine players, but later their number was reduced to seven. Each team will have two defenders, a goalkeeper and a “rover” who played the entire rink. The first professional ice hockey league was formed in 1904 in Michigan. It broke up three years later. Three years later, the National Hockey Association (NHA) and the Pacific Coast League (PCL) were established. At the end of World War I in 1917, the NAA became the National Hockey League, and at the end of the 1920s, the Pacific Coast League was disbanded. Initially there were only ten teams.
The ice hockey stick is a bit less curved than a regular hockey stick, and can be made of wood or a modern composite material. Hockey players use a hard vulcanized rubber disc called a puck that needs to be hit with a stick towards the goal net. They also use unique skates that have blades to facilitate contact with ice. With thirty teams in six divisions throughout the United States and Canada, hockey is becoming a popular sport.
