Made in Britain is a label that can be used on products to indicate that they are made in the United Kingdom.

It was first introduced in the 1980s by the British government to promote British products. The campaign was aimed at countering the success of Japanese products after their companies had taken over swathes of the British manufacturing industry.

The label was created by a number of manufacturers and retailers as part of a campaign to support British manufacturing. The campaign was initially named “Buy British”, but due to complaints from other countries who said they were being excluded from the campaign, it was renamed “Made in Britain”.

The label is valid when the product has been made or processed at any time in its life cycle in the UK, or when 50% or more of its ingredients have been sourced from the UK. For goods which have been partly manufactured overseas, it is not compulsory for them to use the label if their total UK production costs are less than £18,000 over a 12-month period.
