Natalie Dormer (born February 11, 1982) is an English actress. Born in Berkshire, she was educated at the Chiltern Edge Secondary School and Reading Blue Coat School and trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She was widely praised for portraying Anne Boleyn in the TV series The Tudors (2007–08) and was nominated for two Gemini awards for her best lead actress role in a drama series.

She made her stage debut at Young Vic in the 2010 play Sweet Nothings and portrayed the Duchess of York in Madonna W.E. and Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger. In 2012, her lead performance in the movie “After Miss Julie” in “Young Vic” was widely recognized by critics. Dormer attracted international attention with Margarite Tyrell’s performance in the Game of Thrones series of the HBO series, for which she was nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards. She is also known for playing Irene Adler/Moriarty in the series CBS Elementary, Cressida in the science fiction adventure films The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and Part 2 (2015), and Sarah Price/Jess Price in the forest.

Dormer was born in Reading, Berkshire, the daughter of Gary Dormer and wife Claire Richards. She is of partly Norwegian and half Welsh descent.

Dormer attended Chiltern Edge High School and then moved to Reading. She said she was the victim of bullying at school, but “so far cannot understand why”. At school, Dormer was a high school student, first-class student, vice-captain of the school netball team, and traveled the world with her school public speaking team.

In school, Dormer studied dance at the Allenova School of Dancing. She described herself as the “academic hope” of the family. She was temporarily offered a place to learn history in Cambridge. Still, in her level A exam, she did not receive the grade A that she needed to attend after misreading the exam question. Dormer decided that she would be auditioning at drama schools and decided to train at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her first professional acting role was in Shakespeare’s comedy “Comedy of Errors” in 2003.

Six months after graduating from Webber Douglas, Dormer won the role of Victoria in Casanova. This was her film debut, and it was released in 2005. Director Lasse Hallström was so impressed with the comedic moments of Dormer that the screenwriter expanded her role.
