A Mars rover is a motor vehicle that travels across the surface of the planet Mars upon arrival. NASA scientists had to solve a relatively common problem on Earth with the Rover on Mars. What do you do when you get stuck in the sand? Anyone who has ever raced off-road or has owned a 4X4, dune, buggy or ATV understands these issues. There are many trucks to take a vehicle unstuck from the sand. Scientists were able to get unstuck. Now, let’s discuss this question of Mars or planetary exploration because this is just a common problem that we will face when we start exploring other worlds.
Well, if you get stuck in the sand or mud in your car, minivan, SUV, or pickup truck, what do you do? Have you ever wondered how you would get out of this? Have you ever been stuck and thought, and if I got stuck? Getting a tow can be very expensive, time-consuming, and embarrassing enough to get started. There are ways to keep yourself from getting stuck in the first place and tactics for getting unstuck without digging a bigger hole and burying your vehicles to its axles.
The Mars rover has been well designed so that its feet extend downward, so it is unlikely to be buried to the axles unless it finds quicksand. But if it found quicksand, it would be a find in itself because it would mean water and therefore probably life too, so it could send back some really good sample footage. But getting the Mars rover is completely embarrassing never the less, and you can’t just call AAA to tow you? Wouldn’t that just be covered by your membership policy? Good try.
We know on Earth in our gasoline vehicles that if you get stuck in snow or sand, you get rid of the extra weight first; ask the passengers to exit. For the rover, you can put all the exploration arms at the access points to lift the vehicles slightly and tilt it in the direction you want to move.
In a 4×4 or a car stuck in sand or mud, it helps to move the wheels from one side to the other, because it repels mud or sand. This can also be done with the Mars Rover or any other exploration vehicle. In a car, you lightly touch the throttle and move forward, without spinning your wheels, as you could dig deeper. That, too, would be smart for the Mars Rover to get unstuck.
