Di Mara went to Real Madrid in a €25 million deal in 2010, where he won the La Liga championship and the UEFA Champions League. He then joined Manchester United in 2014 for £59.7 million (€75.6 million), a then-British record deal, but left a year later to join Paris Saint-Germain. In France, Di Mara won four league titles, five Coupe de France titles, and four Coupe de la Ligue trophies, including three domestic quadruples, as well as assisting the team to its first Champions League Final appearance. He’s also the club’s eighth-leading goal scorer and all-time assist leader.

Di Mara was born on February 14, 1988, in Rosario, Santa Fe, to Miguel and Diana, as the third of their three children, and grew up in Perdriel. He was an exceptionally active infant, and at the age of three, he was signed up for football on the advice of a doctor. Along with his two sisters, Vanesa and Evelyn, he also assisted his parents with their work at a local coal yard. Purchasing football boots and keeping up with Di Mara’s interest was tough for his parents due to his family’s limited budget. He considers himself a “family man” and has “given back” a large portion of his earnings to his family. He urged his father to stop working after being transferred to Benfica and bought a property for his parents and sisters.

Di Mara was named to Argentina’s team for the Copa América in Brazil in June 2021. In Argentina’s third group encounter against Paraguay on June 21, he assisted Papu Gómez on the game’s sole goal, which allowed his team to advance to the quarter-finals. On 10 July, he scored the game’s only goal in the Copa América final against hosts Brazil, giving Argentina a joint record 15th Copa América championship and their first international title since 1993. He dashed into the Brazilian penalty area after intercepting a long ball from Rodrigo De Paul. The ball was deflected slightly by Brazilian defender Renan Lodi before Di Mara controlled it with the outside of his left foot and chipped it over goalkeeper Ederson to give Argentina an early lead. Despite the fact that he was replaced late in the second half of the contest, his goal would prove to be the game-winning effort for Argentina.
