Charles Otto Puth Jr. (born December 2, 1991) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. His first acquaintance came from the viral success of his music videos uploaded to YouTube.

After initially signing with eleveneleven after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Puth began contributing to songs and albums by other artists such as Cody Simpson, Livingston Taylor, and Skizzy Mars, as well as creating light solo material and covers of popular songs. With the primary intention of pursuing a solo career, Atlantic Records eventually sought the artist and released their debut single “Marvin Gaye” with Meghan Trainor in 2015. The single coincided with his first feature film, “See You Again,” which he co-wrote, co-produced, and performed with Wiz Khalifa on the Furious 7 soundtrack in honor of Paul Walker. It peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 12 straight weeks. Following the success of “See You Again”, he gained worldwide recognition through numerous follow-up releases, including his next single, “One Call Away”. The single peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Puth’s debut studio album, Nine Track Mind, was released in January 2016 to negative reviews, preceded by the singles “One Call Away” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore” featuring Selena Gomez, who took 12th and 9th places respectively on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, he released two songs – “Attention” and “How Long”, as the previous peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both were included in his second studio album Voicenotes (2018), which generally received positive reviews from critics and peaked at the top 4 on the Billboard 200. In 2019, Puth released singles. “I Warned Myself”, “Mother,” and “Cheating on You”.

Charles Otto Puth Jr. was born on December 2, 1991, in Rumson, New Jersey, in Debra, a music teacher who also wrote commercials for HBO, and Charles Otto Puth. Senior, builder, and real estate agent. His father is Catholic, and his mother is Jewish. He has two younger siblings, twins Stephen and Mikaela.

At the age of two, Puth’s right eyebrow was permanently scarred from a nearly fatal dog bite incident.

Puth’s mother introduced him to classical music and began teaching piano at the age of four. He began studying jazz at the age of 10 and participated in a summer youth jazz ensemble at Count Basie Theatre’s Cool School in Red Bank, NJ, at age 12. He was employed by The Count Basie Theatre to play in a Charlie Brown production. In sixth grade, he went door to door selling the Christmas album Have a Merry Charlie Christmas, which he recorded and produced for $600.
