On April 22, 1970, about 20 million Americans gathered for a cleaner and more sustainable environment by “teach-in” demonstrations throughout the country. Springing from the first Earth Day, significant changes were made to the Clean Air Act and the creation of the Clean Water Act.
Earth Day has become an annual holiday in more than 175 countries around the world, one billion people participate in the sustainability fairs, cleaning up and recycling events activities around the world. Activities for Earth Day have expanded to such an extent that April is now considered to be the Earth Month.
With these successes, Earth Day has become a movement for environmental reasons, which are truly global in nature – clean air and water, global warming, etc. Nevertheless, the recycling is left out in the cold.
None of us were born environmentalists. We all love our planet and understand the importance of these global problems of a sustainable way of life. One of the easiest ways to celebrate the Earth Day of the year round through recycling.
Why Celebrate Recycling?
Since this is one of the few things we can do, it contributes to the measurable health of our planet on a daily basis. It’s a habit we can do to contribute to the bigger picture. It has an intrinsic value and is a symbolic act. People feel better when they recycled, especially at events. And this good feeling is contagious. Our task is to make recycling available everywhere so that people can make a difference every day. There are many opportunities for improvement.
The United States is one of the largest producers of trash, but only recycles about 31% of our waste. Recycling is a habit that we can develop to have a positive impact on the environment, every day. When you recycle, every day can be Earth Day.
