Summit Entertainment’s Twilight Saga is a series of five vampire-themed romantic fantasy films based on author Stephenie Meyer’s four books. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner star in the movie. The series has made more than $3.3 billion throughout the world. Twilight was published on November 21, 2008, as the first episode. On November 20, 2009, the second chapter, New Moon, was released, shattering box office records as the most extensive midnight screening and opening day in history, making an estimated $72.7 million. Eclipse, the third episode, was released on June 30, 2010, and was the first film in the series to be shown in IMAX.

The series has been in the works at Paramount Pictures since 2004, at which time a movie version of Twilight was written that departed considerably from the novel. Summit Entertainment bought the film’s rights three years later. Summit Entertainment stated that they would begin production on New Moon after Twilight made $35.7 million on its opening day; they had purchased the rights to the additional novels earlier that month. Breaking Dawn: Part 2 began filming in November 2010 and will be released on November 18, 2011, and November 16, 2012, respectively.

Catherine Hardwicke directed Twilight, which Melissa Rosenberg wrote. It follows the development of a personal connection between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Edward’s and his family’s efforts to protect Bella from a different gang of hostile vampires. Edward opposes Bella’s desire to turn her into a vampire so that they may be together forever, claiming that she deserves to live an everyday human life.
